A Very Merry Christmas to all friends, guests, partners and committed members of Russian English Speakers in London.
We would like wish you all the best in health, happiness, success and also a positive new year marked with achievements and inspiration.
At our club meeting this evening, we learned about how to turn a New Year’s resolution into an effective health and fitness development plan, as well as how to appreciate and value the city we all live in – London. And to be proud to be Londoners!
Roman Grigorjev gave us a thoughtful and “wicked” (Word of the Day) speech about this, thereby also completing his tenth and final speech of the Toastmasters CC Manual. Congratulations Roman!
Russian English Speakers has another big reason to be proud: to have been founded, led and persistently motivated by a “wicked” President, none other than David Marks.
Just a little more than a year ago, David Marks, an experienced Toastmaster, had the vision to expand its program into a bilingual realm and, together with Anastasia Scherbakova, put that vision into action. Thanks to his efforts and resolve, the club grew from its humble origins to a regular venue for cultural, intellectual and professional exchange among those who are connected somehow to Russia, until it was officially chartered last summer, with the London 2012 Olympic Games serving as a perfect backdrop.
David Marks is now embarking on a new step in his career that will no longer allow him to dedicate his full time to the club’s management.
Today, Russian English Speakers voted Colm Doherty, a loyal member of the club, to take over the role from David in directing the executive committee.
Colm’s vision includes more opportunities to expand our bilingual identity at our meetings as well as increasingly stimulating topics.
We would like to wish our new President Colm Doherty all success in his new function with us, and to our Founder and Past President David Marks infinite thanks and the very best of luck at his new company.
